It also protects against viruses, phishing, spoofing, and other forms of malware that present an ongoing threat to the legitimate email communications of your business. It offers simple and easy-to-use features to analyze, manage, and report on the inbound and outbound email traffic patterns of Microsoft Exchange Server or any SMTP email server.

Clam AntiVirus, an open source (GPL) anti-virus toolkit, designed especially for e-mail scanning on mail gateways, is included in the base install of SecurityGateway and MDaemon (versions 16.5.2 and above).

Before upgrading SecurityGateway, make sure that you have a current subscription. Follow this link to find out: http://www.altn.com/Upgrade/Default.asp

Use the registration key found in SecurityGateway by navigating here: Setup/Users | Registration

The wizard on our website will tell you whether or not you have a current subscription.

Follow these steps to upgrade SecurityGateway:

  1. Back up the entire SecurityGateway directory structure, as a precaution.
  2. Open the SecurityGateway console.
  3. Click Setup/Users in the left pane, and then select Software Updates.
  4. Click the 'A SecurityGateway for Exchange/SMTP update is available' link. (If that link is not listed, click the 'Click here to check for software updates now' link.)
  5. Click the 'Click here to download and install this update now.' link.
  6. Click OK to restart SecurityGateway and download the update.
  7. After the update is finished, click the Close button.

Alternate Upgrade Method:

  1. Back up the entire SecurityGateway directory structure, as a precaution.
  2. Download the SecurityGateway update from our website by following this link: http://www.altn.com/Downloads/ExistingCustomers/
  3. In the SecurityGateway box, select your 'Product Language' and click click the GO button.
  4. Fill out the information in the 'Complete to Download' window and click Continue.
  5. Save the SecurityGateway installation file to your computer.
  6. Run the SecurityGateway installation file. d(The installer will stop the SecurityGateway service on order to perform file updates)
  7. Follow the installation steps.
  8. Click Finish to start SecurityGateway.

The SecurityGateway Dashboard

Once you have logged into SecurityGateway you are presented with the Dashboard - an overview of SecurityGateway's alerts, users and statistics.

Server Status - this section contains:

  1. The state of the SMTP service, with a link to either stop or start it, depending on the current state
  2. Any administrative alerts that need your attention such as the number of days left in a trial
  3. A link to manage product registration and activation
  4. The total number of domains and users, with a link to the Domains and Users management section

Server statistics - These graphs give you an overview of the traffic going through the server. The graphs shown span the last 24 hours, and show:

  1. Inbound vs. Outbound Messages - shows the total by hour of in and outbound messages that have passed through SecurityGateway
  2. Total Bandwidth Used By Email - shows the total by hour of bandwidth of messages that have passed through the server
  3. Good vs. Junk Messages - shows the total by hour of good mail vs. what the SecurityGateway believes to be 'junk' mail - viruses, spam, phishing, etc.
  4. Junk Email Breakdown - shows the different types of junk mail that have come in to your server by hour
  5. Top Email Recipients - breaks down the top 10 email recipients by total messages received in the last day
  6. Top Spam Sender Domain - breaks down the top 10 spam sending domains by total messages received in the last day.
